Amazon Prime Video has released the first set of images of its next Spanish Amazon Original production, “El Cid”, which will premiere this year in more than 240 countries and territories around the world, starring Jaime Lorente (“Money Heist”, “Everybody knows”).
The series tells the story of the man behind the legend, following the epic journey of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar from his childhood until he became “El Cid”. Through the series, the audience will explore the different kingdoms, cultures and religions that coexisted on the Iberian Peninsula.
The cast also includes José Luis García-Pérez, as King Fernando I “The Great”; Elia Galera, as Queen Sancha “The Beauty”; Carlos Bardem as the Count of León; Juan Echanove, in the role of the bishop; Alicia Sanz, as the Infanta Urraca; Francisco Ortiz, as Sancho VII “The Strong”; Jaime Olías as Alfonso VI; Lucía Guerrero, like Jimena; Lucía Díez, as Infanta Elvira; Nicolás Illoro, as King García; Juan Fernández, as Rodrigo, Cid’s grandfather; Pablo Álvarez, as Orduño, Ruy’s antagonist; Ginés García Millán, as King Ramiro of Navarra; Daniel Tatay, as Beltrán, Ramiro’s son; David Castillo, as the squire Lisardo; Adrián Salzedo, as Alvar; Álvaro Rico, as Nuño, along with Hamid Krim, who plays the Sultan of Zaragoza Al-Muqtadir; and Zohar Liba, as Abu Bakr.
“El Cid” is a Zebra Producciones production. The executive producers are Sara Fernández-Velasco and José Velasco, creator of the series along with Luis Arranz, the head of the script team. Directed by Marco A. Castillo and Adolfo Martínez Pérez. The series’soundtrack is composed by Gustavo Santaolalla, Oscar-winner for “Brokeback Mountain” and “Babel”.
