2007.
The recent International Film Festival of Berlin had the presence of the gastronomic thriller: "El pollo, el pez y el cangrejo real", the only Spanish production participating in an official section, although not competing, this year.
The film shows the adventures of the Spanish chef Jesús Almagro when preparing for the prestigious Bocouse D´Or Worldwide Cuisine Championship in Lyon, after having won the 2006 Regional Cuisine Championship of the Community of Madrid. This documentary film produced by Zebra was previously presented in Spain by the counsellor on Culture and Tourism of the Community of Madrid, Santiago Fisas, accompanied by the other main characters, the chef Jesús Almagro, and all the rest of the participants in the “jury”, the director, José Luis López Linares, and the producer, Antonio Saura.
According to López Linares, the film inaugurates a cinema sub-genre: the gastronomic thriller. "Time was passing by and Jesús kept on searching for the perfect recipe to unite the Bresse chicken, Norwegian halibut and royal red crab, three ingredients that are a must in the culinary event". The charisma of the main character --"a magnificent chap"-- together with the ordeal he lives, make the film a singular experience.
